Preparing for an unset ballet class can be a LOT of work depending on the level of ballet. Teaching an unset class that challenges your dancers’ musicality and understanding of music and rhythm is not for the musically uncertain! This short but intense 1 hour presentation is going to dive into using the ‘and’, or NOT using it, in different music types throughout a ballet class. This is a HUGE topic since many music types, both duple and triple meter, have an anacrusis! We’re going to go through a typical class and discuss the impact of using this fantastic rhythm feature! (I’ll be there with keys so we can make sure you have the chance to hear it!) We might even create some exercises and practice using it (time dependent)!
Get ready to take your game from the judges' table to the center stage with some real talk straight from yours truly. I've been rocking the judge's hat for over a decade, and I'm spilling the beans on my top 25 tips to amp up your dancer's game on that stage. We're talking everything from nailing those moves to owning the spotlight with confidence. No fancy jargon, just down-to-earth advice to help your dancer shine like the star they are. Let's turn those judge's insights into your dancer's success story!
Energy is crucial in learning environments, fostering commitment and morale in dance teams. Sharing personal experiences enhances interactions and encourages open discussions. Blake & Kim will share the importance of detailed teaching in your classrooms. Enjoyable interactions among teachers set the tone for a class focused on point work in ballet. Readiness is determined by age and physical assessments, with health checks required. The training begins with foundational techniques, emphasizing relevé and plié. Pre point exercises ensure proper alignment, while the transition to center work builds complexity. The structured approach prepares students for advanced techniques through dedicated classes.
Stop the confusion (at least for you!) of how to count the music. Musician’s beats are exactly what they need to play the music and dancer counts are exactly what you need to organize your exercises and choreography. It’s the same music but somehow we count it differently! Learn, see, clap and count the differences (for the last time!) for the 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 and the 6/8!
Key techniques focus on maintaining a neutral pelvis and proper shoulder alignment. Exercises improve balance and core strength, with methods developed during the pandemic. Personal decision-making in dance is emphasized, along with judging techniques in jazz. The importance of repetition and technique in practicing dance moves is highlighted, alongside a detailed breakdown of a routine and an offer for assistance.
"Dancing" is different than "Doing Choreography"! Particularly in advanced classes, dancers get caught up focusing solely on getting the moves down and forget to add intention. During class (and eventually on the stage) it's our job to connect with the music and emulate how it feels and sounds through the choreography.
