GETTING ORGANIZED & READY FOR THE NEW DANCE SEASON

As we are well underway into a brand new year, start the season off right by having information, schedules and deadlines, organized and ready! Get your team on the same page to work together towards a successful and fulfilling year! Here are some suggestions to get you going!

1.      What is each teacher’s 2022-2023 schedule?  Class roster? (if known)

2.      What is the 2022-2023 studio calendar? When is the studio closed? Holiday schedule? Performance Dates?

3.      When and where are this year’s competitions/community performances, etc.?

4.      When are fundraisers, community outreach events?

5.      When are dancer team building events schedules? Family events?

6.      When are signed and dated teacher/student/parent contracts due back to directors?

7.      What is the theme of this year’s recital?

8.      When are Company/Placement Auditions? (if applicable)

9.      Which dancers would teachers like to use in their pieces? When is this list due by?

10.  When are concepts and edited music due by?

11.  If teachers pick their own costumes, when are costume submissions due by?

12.  When are faculty/parent/students meetings to be held?

13.  What is teacher rehearsal availability/preferences? When should this be due by?

14.  When are billing cycles? What are studio payment options?

15.  When should all choreography be completed by?

16.  What are studio procedures/protocols, etc.?

Jess Stafford

Jess Stafford is a native New Yorker and has her MA in Dance Education from NYU. She also earned a BFA in dance performance from UMASS Amherst. Following a wonderful professional dance career, Jess now teaches and choreographs nationally and internationally, bringing her love of movement and creating to all her classes. Jess’ favorite performance credits include: The National Tour of Guys & Dolls, The European Tour of Grease, West Side Story, Cabaret, Sweet Charity, Salute to Dudley Moore at Carnegie Hall, guest-dancer with the World Famous Pontani Sisters and IMPULSE Modern Dance Company. She has been on faculty for the Rutgers University Dance Department, Perichild Program at Peridance and was Company Director at Steffi Nossen School of Dance. Jess has also taught creative movement therapy in Uganda and was a featured instructor at the Queen's Kampala Dance School. She has conducted workshops for the cast of LA REVE at the Wynn, Las Vegas and has been on faculty at the IDS International Dance Teacher Conference at The Royal Ballet, MPower Summer Dance Intensives and annual Dance Teacher Web Conferences. Jess has also served as Master Teacher & adjudicator for various dance competitions. She is the Chief Editor and contributing writer for the DanceTeacherWeb.com blog and is also an original in-house Dance Teacher Web faculty member. Jess’ latest venture has called her to become a Board Certified Integrative Health Coach, 500HR RYT and RPYT. She is also the creator of her private practice, Rebel Wellness.
