10 INTERDISCIPLINARY INSPIRATIONS FOR CHOREOGRPAHY

Finding a beautiful, moving piece of music is a wonderful feeling for any choreographer. To actually envisage movement coming to you in your head and pouring out, where the piece is essentially choreographing itself is what we all dream of. Sometimes thinking outside of the box for inspiration, particularly when it’s outside our comfort zone can be challenging and exciting in its own new way as well. It also keeps us learning new genres and broadens our scope as a student and an artist.

Often used with my own choreography composition students, below are ten alternative ideas to seek inspiration for your new works. Some may resonate more than others and some you may use all the time, but just remember, while music and dance go hand in hand, it’s nice to change it up now and then and realize how broad our range and inspirations actually are. How we transcend what moves us into motion takes our choreography to another level each time.

Have fun! Enjoy! Let me know how it goes and other ideas you think of!

Good luck!

See you in the dance studio.
