BARRE WORK - Senior Ballet Lesson Plan

  1. Warm up tendu from 1st facing barre

Tendu devant , close 1st, tendu derriere close 1st

Devant flex heel and pointe and close 1st

Tendu decote right close 1st

Tendu decote left close 1st

Tendu right and flex and point close 1st, port de bras side, port de bras back

Degage to 2nd, lower plié to second, transfer weight to other leg

Repeat all other side

  1. Plie

    Port de bras forward (4 counts)

    2 demi plies using upper body arc forward then backward

    2 slow rises

    I quick grand plié

    Degage 2nd, repeat all second with port de bras to barre

    Degage 4th; repeat all 4th with port de bras forward

    Degage 5th; repeat all 5th with circular port de bras

    Rise balance at end

  2. Tendu

    Tendu devnt and close, tendu devant lower plié to 4th, straighten knees in 4th,

    demi plié in 4th again and swivel to other side

    Repeat all other side

    3 tendu decote, tendu decote plié second at stretch close 5th

    3 tendu decote, tendu decote plié second at stretch close 5th

  3. Tendu

2 tendu devant

Repeat all with inside leg

Repeat all with inside leg from derriere

2 quick decote inside leg

Reverse

  1. Pique

Pas de chevalle devant, and pique devant, 3 glisse devant

Repeat side

Repeat derriere

3 battement glisse en cloche

  1. Ronds de Jambe

Ronds de jambe front to back close 5th

Ronds de jambe back to front, close 5th and degage decote

4 single ronds de jambe

2 small ronds de jambe just off the floor

Releve lent devant and passé to retire developpe to arabesque and close 5th

Reerse all

Port de bras forward

Port de bras back

Tendu de cote and port de bras to barre

Swivel to face barre, lunge and continue down into splits and stretch out.

  1. Battement Fondu

Fondu devant, coupe into fondu derriere, coupe

2 fondu decote

Fondu devant, carry to second

Rose turn face the barre in second and turn to arabesque, close 5th

Repaet all other side

  1. Frappe

2 frappe devant

3 quick frappe decote

2 frappe derriere

3 quick frappe decote

Repeat on demi pointe

4 double frappe decote on demi pointe

petit battement 4 counts with port de bras

Petit battement to fond devant afface

Petite battement to fondu derriere

Small lift of leg to low arabesque and balance

  1. Adage

Petit developpe to pointe tendu devant and port de bras forward, bringing

the leg to a releve lent devant on the recovery

Grand ronds de jambe to finish derriere, close 5th derriere

Developpe decote on rise, tombe to second away from the barre with a port

de bras side

Step back to 5th position demi pointe, passé retire and lower to 4th and single

pirouette.

  1. Grand Battement

1 tendu devant, 1 grand battement devant, repeat twice more

Grand battement devant, en cloche derriere and close 5th

Repeat derriere

4 grand battement en croix

2 grand battement decote

chasse en avant

swivel to other side and releve to attitude devant

Alisa Finney

Alisa Finney re launched the Melbourne Ballet Company in 2007 and she carries responsibilities in artistic direction, programming and professional development for the company. Her successful career as a Principal ballet teacher at Gay Wightman School of Ballet for over 20 years is ably supported with an Advanced Diploma in Dance Teaching from the Australian Ballet School (Distinction), Borovansky Memorial Australian Academy of Dancing Diploma, Australian Institute of Classical Dance Licenciate Diploma, Bachelor of Applied Science (RMIT) and Bachelor of Business Administration (RMIT), plus multiple certificates in pedagogical studies that enhance her career in dance education. As Principal of the Gay Wightman School of Ballet she puts on 3 student productions annually with over 400 performers, teaches the Vaganova based BMAAD syllabus from Pre-Primary to Solo Seal and is a teacher of VCE and VET Dance as well as private coaching. Alisa has developed a 13 level elite student dance program- the Melbourne Ballet Company Coaching School, and she delivers and co- ordinates teachers development days in this system of training. Students are submitted in exams for this through the Australasian Dance Assessment. A vision to create a ballet company has been hers for many years. As a manager of a performing arts organisation she has taken the primary role to initiate and develop the Melbourne Ballet Company, securing its clear direction and future through bringing in key alliances and ensuring a stable management structure for the company. To maintain the momentum of a professional company that is high in integrity with committed and loyal personnel in the competitive environment that is Melbournes arts scene has earned her great respect within the industry and abroad. Now in its fourth year of operation, and with nine successful performance seasons, Alisa has provided a surety for Melbourne Ballet Company’s future.
