1. PORT DE BRAS - FIVE POSITIONS OF THE ARMS

Prepare: 1st position, en face

Introduction: Arm demi allonge & lower to bras bas

1-2 Lift arms to 1st position

3-4 Open arms to 2nd position

5-6 Right arm 3rd position

7-8 Lift to 4th position

1-2 Join arms in 5th position

3-4 Open arms 2nd position, head follows right

5-6 Lower arms to bras bas

7 Demi allonge

8 Lower to bras bas

Repeat using the head to the left

2. POLKA EN AVANT AND EN ARRIERE

Prepare: 3rd or 5th position

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd and pick up skirt

1-6 3 polka en avant

7-8 1 polka en arriere

(All polkas commence with a hop on count "and" and pass through 1st position demi plie)

Repeat to end of music.

Finish closing to 3rd or 5th position from degage en avant, lowering arms to bras bas.

3. GALLOPS EN TOURNANT

Exercise can be done in a circle or diagonal

Prepare: 3rd or 5th position

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd and pick up skirt or hands on waist

1-4 4 gallops to the right, joining feet to 5th in the air, right foot front for each gallop

"and" complete a half turn to the right with a hop

5-8 4 gallops, continuing in the same direction, left foot front

(All gallops commence with a hop on count "and")

Repeat to end of music.

Finish closing to 3rd or 5th position from degage de cote, lowering arms to bras bas.

4.GALLOPS AND SPRING POINTS

Prepare: 3rd or 5th position

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd and pick up skirt or hands on waist

1-4 4 galops to the right, joining feet to 5th in the air, right foot front for each galop

5-8 4 spring points

(All gallops commence with a hop on count "and")

Repeat to end of music.

Finish closing to 3rd or 5th position from degage de cote, lowering arms to bras bas.

5. WALTZ DE COTE

Prepare: 3rd or 5th position en face

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd

1-12 4 waltz de cote, using 3rd position arms

1-6 Softly lifting arms to skirt, runs on demi pointe in a small circle around self to the right

1-3 Facing front, step forward on the left foot, with right in degage derriere, arms open through first to second

4-6 Close 5th position derriere

Repeat all to the left

6 .SAUTES IN 1ST POSITION

Prepare: 1st position hands on hips or shoulders

Introduction: Demi plie

1-6 6 Sautes in first position

7 Stretch knees

8 Demi plie

1-8 Repeat the exercise

Alternative Exercise

8 Divided sautes in first position, using 2 counts for the demi plie

7 .PREPARATION FOR GLISSADE DERRIERE

Prepare: 3rd or 5th position en face

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd and pick up skirt or hands on waist ( optional use of 3rd position arms )

1 Extend back leg to fondu de cote

2 Transfer weight to fondu de cote on other leg

3 Close 5th devant, demi plie

4-9 Repeat twice more

10-12 Battement tendu over to demi plie

Repeat all to left

Repeat all

Finish by stretching knees and lowering arms to bras bas

8.WALKS AND CURTSEY\BOW

Prepare: 3rd or 5th position at back of room

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd and pick up skirt

1 Classical walk on right foot

2 Classical walk on left foot

3 Step to the right with petit developpe

4 Curtsey ( boys bow)

Repeat 3 more sets

Lower arms to bras bas to finish, feet 5th or 3rd

9 .RHYTHMICAL WALKS

Clockwise circle, feet parallel

Prepare: Feet parallel

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd and hands on waist

1 Step forward on right foot, bending right knee on fondu, pointing left foot derriere foot lifted

2 Step forward on left high demi pointe with knees straight

3 Step forward on right high demi pointe with knees straight

Continue on alternate legs to end of music

Finish feet parallel arms to bras bas.

10. PAS MARCHE

Clockwise circle

Prepare: Feet 5th or 3rd

Introduction: Arms 1st to 2nd and hands on waist or pick up skirt

1 Step forward on right foot

2 Step forward on left foot

3 Step forward on right foot, bending right knee and passing left foot through first position demi plie to low fondu en l'air

Continue on alternate legs to end of music

Finish feet 5th or 3rd, arms bras bas

11. RUN AND POSE

Free choice of music

Teacher to set own exercise combining classical runs with small poses

Optional use of scarf or flag

Alisa Finney re launched the Melbourne Ballet Company in 2007 and she carries responsibilities in artistic direction, programming and professional development for the company. Her successful career as a Principal ballet teacher at Gay Wightman School of Ballet for over 20 years is ably supported with an Advanced Diploma in Dance Teaching from the Australian Ballet School (Distinction), Borovansky Memorial Australian Academy of Dancing Diploma, Australian Institute of Classical Dance Licenciate Diploma, Bachelor of Applied Science (RMIT) and Bachelor of Business Administration (RMIT), plus multiple certificates in pedagogical studies that enhance her career in dance education. As Principal of the Gay Wightman School of Ballet she puts on 3 student productions annually with over 400 performers, teaches the Vaganova based BMAAD syllabus from Pre-Primary to Solo Seal and is a teacher of VCE and VET Dance as well as private coaching. Alisa has developed a 13 level elite student dance program- the Melbourne Ballet Company Coaching School, and she delivers and co- ordinates teachers development days in this system of training. Students are submitted in exams for this through the Australasian Dance Assessment. A vision to create a ballet company has been hers for many years. As a manager of a performing arts organisation she has taken the primary role to initiate and develop the Melbourne Ballet Company, securing its clear direction and future through bringing in key alliances and ensuring a stable management structure for the company. To maintain the momentum of a professional company that is high in integrity with committed and loyal personnel in the competitive environment that is Melbournes arts scene has earned her great respect within the industry and abroad. Now in its fourth year of operation, and with nine successful performance seasons, Alisa has provided a surety for Melbourne Ballet Company’s future.
