To understand the makeup look of any era you have to delve in to what that that time in history was all about.

The 60's was a time of revolution. The fashion and the makeup was bold, graphic and edgy, almost futuristic. Black and white was the go to combination. Eyes were strong and lips were white to stand out and up to those bold eyes. Brows were thin to frame those eyes. The makeup made a statement like the clothes. Even the body became art with flower power body painting body. Lashes were the biggest in history with even fake lower lashes applied to make a statement.

GET THE LOOK 1960'S FOXY

1. Begin by thinning the brows. The brows should be more rounded than straight and defined dark to frame a bold eye.

2. Set eye lid with face powder and line black through the crease lifting up towards the end of the brow like a winged effect. Some looks even had the black liner through the crease

3. Whiten/highlight lids and beneath eye brows with either matte or shimmer shadow in white.

This should be bold.

4. Line across lid with black cake liner or liquid sweeping up towards the end of the brow.

5. Line very thin lower lashes sweeping out at the outer corner but not meeting the liners.

6. Make little lines along lower lash line to look like bold lower lashes. The lashes can be brought out even more by lining with white eye pencil in between black lines.

7. Open eyes at the outer and inner corners with white eye pencil.

8. Clean up mess under eyes for a flawless clean look then even out skin-tone with foundation, concealer (under eyes for dark circles) and powder. Makeup should look matte.

9. Contour cheeks by defining along the cheek bone with a neutral pink/brown cheek color shade. Actual cheek flushing was minimal and the look was a bit pale.

10. Line lips with neutral pinky brown lip liner (if needed for smaller lips) and highlight lips with white lipstick or eye shadow. (if using white shadow add a little lip gloss to cream it up a bit)

11. False lashes are key here and should be thick, black and long. Even two rows of lashes work well to bring out the look. Use a full row below onto lower lashes as well instead of lining if preferred.

Add drama and enhance the theme of the 1960's with wigs. Try a Foxy Fro in white or your natural hair color. Groovy Baby Bobs look great too in Platinum! Bouffant styles with a flip at the bottom are very 60's too (Think Priscilla Presley)!
