BARRE

1. PLIES

Prepare: 1st position

Introduction: Arm 1st to 2nd

1-4 2 demi plies with simple port de bras

5-8 Rise and balance arms 1st position

1-4 1 demi plie port de bras bras bas , 1st , 2nd

5-6 Rise in 1st position and lower with straight legs

7-8 Degage to 2nd position

Repeat in 2nd, 5th devant and 5th derriere

1. DEGAGE WITH PLACEMENT

Prepare: 5th position

Introduction: Arm 1st to 2nd

1 Degage en avant

2 Place 4th crossed ( shorthened)

3 Degage in 4th position

4 Close 5th position devant

Repeat en croix

1-16 Repeat all en croix, with demi plie on the placement

2. BATTEMENT GLISSE

Prepare: 5th position

Introduction: Arm 1st to 2nd

1-4 2 battement glisse en avant

5-6 1 battement glisse en avant to demi plie

7-8 Stretch knees

Repeat all en croix

3. DEMI ROND DE JAMBE A TERRE

Prepare: 1st position

Introduction: Arm 1st to 2nd

1-3 Degage en avant

4-6 Demi rond de jambe de cote

1-3 Demi rond de jambe derriere

4-6 Close 1st position

1-3 Degage en avant

4-6 Lower to 4th position

1-3 Degage in 4th position

4-6 Close to 1st position

Repeat with demi rond de jambe en dedans, with placement to 4th derriere

Repeat all.

4. BATTEMENT FONDU

Prepare: 5th position

Introduction: Arm 1st to 2nd

1-3 Battement fondu en avant a terre ( tendu fondu)

4-6 Close 5th position, straightening knees

1-6 Repeat de cote

1-6 Repeat derriere

1-6 Assemble soutenu over, lowering arm to bras bas and port de bras both arms to 5th

1-6 Balance in 5th

1-6 Port de bras to second holding on to the barre

1-3 Lower to demi plie, arm bras bas

4-6 Stretch knees with degage de cote, arm through 1st to 2nd position

1-6 Close to 5th position derriere, arm remains in 2nd

Repeat all in reverse

5. BATTEMENT SUR LE COU DE PIED

Prepare: 5th position facing the barre

Introduction: Arm 1st to 2nd

1-2 Degage de cote right, place sou le cou de pied devent

3 Hold sou le cou de pied

4 Close 5th position devant

1-2 Degage en arriere with left leg, place sou le cou de pied derriere

3 Hold sou le cou de pied

4 Close 5th derriere

1-2 Degage de cote right, place sou le cou de pied devent

3-4 Passe dessous to cou de pied derriere, place 5th derriere

1-4 4 changements de pieds

Repeat all commencing left foot front

8. BATTEMENT RETIRE

Alisa Finney

Alisa Finney re launched the Melbourne Ballet Company in 2007 and she carries responsibilities in artistic direction, programming and professional development for the company. Her successful career as a Principal ballet teacher at Gay Wightman School of Ballet for over 20 years is ably supported with an Advanced Diploma in Dance Teaching from the Australian Ballet School (Distinction), Borovansky Memorial Australian Academy of Dancing Diploma, Australian Institute of Classical Dance Licenciate Diploma, Bachelor of Applied Science (RMIT) and Bachelor of Business Administration (RMIT), plus multiple certificates in pedagogical studies that enhance her career in dance education. As Principal of the Gay Wightman School of Ballet she puts on 3 student productions annually with over 400 performers, teaches the Vaganova based BMAAD syllabus from Pre-Primary to Solo Seal and is a teacher of VCE and VET Dance as well as private coaching. Alisa has developed a 13 level elite student dance program- the Melbourne Ballet Company Coaching School, and she delivers and co- ordinates teachers development days in this system of training. Students are submitted in exams for this through the Australasian Dance Assessment. A vision to create a ballet company has been hers for many years. As a manager of a performing arts organisation she has taken the primary role to initiate and develop the Melbourne Ballet Company, securing its clear direction and future through bringing in key alliances and ensuring a stable management structure for the company. To maintain the momentum of a professional company that is high in integrity with committed and loyal personnel in the competitive environment that is Melbournes arts scene has earned her great respect within the industry and abroad. Now in its fourth year of operation, and with nine successful performance seasons, Alisa has provided a surety for Melbourne Ballet Company’s future.
