Winter means shorter days and longer nights in twinkling lights!  Whether you’re in low light, candlelight or the spotlight it’s time to highlight and these tips will make sure you or your students look dazzling!

Winter white has never looked better.  Here is 5 ways to use highlighting whites to create lift and add light to your face.

1.     White Pencil- Make your eyes appear whiter and brighter by using the white pencil on the lower lid (above lower lashes on ridge).  Apply to outer corner of eyes to lift and remove shadows that makes eyes look tired.

2.     Shimmer Pots- Use white/gold or white/silver to highlight your assets.  Use shimmer to compliment eye color white/gold for brown or green eyes or white/silver for blue eyes, and apply to inner eye corner, brow arch and center of lid.  Apply high on cheekbones or lightly on cheek rounds, down center of nose, lightly on tip of chin, shoulders or chest to create radiance and light.

3.     Facial Primer- These silicone based products have a slight sheen to them and fill in areas where skin is lined or dry creating a smoother appearance and a soft glow. Apply all over facial skin or just on cheekbones, forehead or nose bridge.

4.     Lipstick Highlighter- Use a white or gold/silver shiny lipstick or lip-gloss at the center of the upper and lower lip to create pop and a pouty affect.    Try a little bit of shimmer pot just above and on the bow of the upper lip for even more drama!

5.     Sparkle Spray- used sparingly on bare skin and down the part of your hair can add just enough twinkle for added glamour and shine.

Don’t let winter give your skin and hair the blues! Try these skin & hair care tips to warm up your natural glow.

1.     Exfoliate- Remove dead skin. Try a clean wash cloth with a cleanser that contains Salycilic Acid (try Mode Dion’s Daily Control Cleanser), mashed up pumpkin, oatmeal with a little milk made like a paste or facial grains. Don’t neglect your body, even though you’re all covered up, skin still needs care.  Shave your legs regularly to remove dead skin and keep them smooth.  Massage scalp before stepping into the shower to loosen dead skin build up

2.     Hydrate- Massage oil onto wet skin (try Sunflower, Avacado, Olive, Jojoba, Coconut, Sweet Almond or Kukui Nut) and wear a warm robe as it seals in moisture.  Use a rich foot cream. Wrap feet in plastic wrap and put on socks before bed for a super foot repair. Put on lip balm and hand cream before bed so you wake up feeling nourished.

3.     Protect- Hydrate facial skin and after always apply a sunscreen even if the sun isn’t out. Don’t forget to hydrate hands before going out in the cold and protect them with gloves as much as possible to prevent chapping.  Wear a hat to protect hair from winter elements.  Even hair can be affected by cold temperatures and become damaged.

4.     Pamper to improve your mood- Winter is not only cold, but a stressful  busy time.  With holiday parties and big plans kicking off for the New Year ahead, take time to your self with a nice hot bath filled with bath oils like Sunflower, Avocado, Olive, Jojoba, Sweet Almond or Kukui Nut.  Add scented essential oils to help you relax like Jasmine, Lavender, Rose or Vanilla.  Remember to add oils into your bath after you are already soaking so oils can seal in moisture affectively.
